Rider University Emphasizes Career-Focused College Education as Students Seek Clearer Paths From Degree to Work

Sep 15, 2026

Rider University is emphasizing career-focused education as students seek stronger connections between college and employment, combining more than 100 academic programs with experiential learning, internships, career coaching, and flexible pathways designed to help graduates prepare for evolving professional opportunities.

-- Choosing a college major now often comes with a second question: where can it lead? Students and families want academic options tied to practical experience and career preparation.

Rider University is responding by emphasizing three parts of its college education model. They are academic choice, hands-on learning, and career support.

Rider offers more than 100 majors, minors, and programs across many academic fields. They include business, humanities, sciences, education, technology, media, and the arts.

Students can use that range to build an academic path around their interests. They can also explore how different fields connect with possible careers.

The university's current service focus extends beyond classroom coursework. Experiential learning sits at the center of Rider's approach.

Students can gain practical experience through internships, guided research, student teaching, performances, and major-related capstone projects. Those opportunities give students ways to test their interests before graduation.

Career preparation also begins while students are still enrolled. Rider provides one-on-one career coaching, résumé assistance, internship support, and on-campus job fairs.

Its career resources help students examine links between majors, employers, and career areas. That support can help students whose first job may not directly match their major.

Rider reports about 1,400 internships, co-ops, and field placements completed by students each year. The university's Class of 2023 outcomes show how experiential learning connects with post-college plans. Nearly nine in 10 employed undergraduate survey respondents had participated in hands-on learning.

Those experiences can take several forms. A finance student might use an internship to see classroom concepts inside a company.

An education student can develop skills through student teaching. Research, performances, and field placements provide similar bridges in other disciplines.

Rider also serves students whose education does not follow a traditional four-year timeline. Graduate programs let professionals deepen existing expertise or prepare for a new direction.

Continuing education options provide additional routes for adult and nontraditional students. Multiple degree and certificate programs are available. Rider also provides different course delivery formats.

The model gives students room to adjust as their goals become clearer. Rider notes that a major does not always lead to one specific occupation. Its career services therefore encourage students to consider transferable skills and multiple professional paths.

Outcome data provide another measure of that approach. Rider reports a 93% positive outcome rate for surveyed Class of 2023 bachelor's degree recipients.

That includes employment, graduate school, volunteering, or military service within one year. The reported rate was 96% among surveyed master's degree recipients.

Rider combines broad academic choice with practical learning and career preparation. The approach connects college coursework with experiences students can use after graduation. Students can therefore consider both what they want to study and how to build relevant experience.

About the company: Rider University is a private university in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. It provides undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education programs. Students can choose from more than 100 majors, minors, and programs across numerous academic fields.
