Marks & Harrison Celebrates 115 Years of Serving Injury Victims Across Virginia, DC, and Maryland

Sep 15, 2026

For more than a century, the law firm has built a legacy of legal service, public service, and community involvement across the communities it serves.

RICHMOND, VA, September 15, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marks & Harrison, a nationally recognized personal injury and workers' compensation law firm, proudly celebrates its 115th anniversary this year. Since 1911, the law firm has recovered over $1 billion in compensation for injured people in Virginia and the DC Metro region.

The firm's early history was shaped by three prominent attorneys. David A. Harrison Jr., a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law, served in the Virginia House of Delegates and secured the charter for the City of Hopewell, going on to serve as its mayor and its first Commonwealth's Attorney.

C. Hardaway Marks was a well-known trial lawyer and longtime Virginia politician who served in the state House of Delegates, where he chaired the Courts of Justice and Corporations, Insurance, and Banking committees. He later received the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association's Distinguished Service Award.

Attorney James A. Harrison was deeply involved in Virginia's legal community and also dedicated to civic improvement efforts. He served on the Virginia State Bar's Labor Law Division and Committee on Nominations to the Supreme Court of Virginia. In 1980, Harrison received the Arthur Sydney Bedell Award for his extraordinary personal service in water pollution control.

Together, these early leaders set the stage for the firm's remarkable success. Since its founding, Marks & Harrison has remained in continuous operation and is now one of Virginia's largest personal injury law firms. With 34 attorneys, more than 130 support staff, in-house investigators, and bilingual personnel across 14 offices, the firm draws on its experience and resources to provide personalized legal representation to its clients.

Through the years, Marks & Harrison and its attorneys have received professional recognition from prestigious legal organizations and publications such as:

- Virginia Trial Lawyers Association
- Martindale-Hubbell
- Best Lawyers in America
- Super Lawyers
- U.S. News & World Report
- Virginia Lawyers Weekly
- The Richmond-Times Dispatch
- The Fredericksburg Free Lance-Star

The firm also maintains longstanding ties to the community through its support of organizations and events including Ronald McDonald House Charities of Richmond, the Virginia Court Reporters Association, the Yellow Door Foundation, Haven House, Tappahannock RivahFest, Comfort Zone Camp, Toys for Tots, and Central Virginia Legal Aid Society. This year also marks Marks & Harrison's 15th consecutive year sponsoring the WE CARE Festival, which supports residents of Richmond's Northside community.

"Reaching 115 years is an extraordinary milestone for Marks & Harrison," says personal injury attorney James G. Harrison III. "Though our firm has grown over the years, our commitment to obtaining justice for injured people has never wavered. We're honored to carry that legacy forward for many years to come."

Since 1911, the personal injury attorneys of Marks & Harrison have protected the rights of accident and injury victims and their families. The firm has 14 offices throughout Virginia and the DC Metro area, with its main office located at 1500 Forest Avenue, Room 100, Richmond, Va., 23229.
