ACondor Explains How Its Beta-Weighted Delta Band Keeps Options Books Balanced

Sep 23, 2026

ACondor, an automated options trading platform that runs mechanical premium-selling strategies in tastytrade accounts, has detailed how beta weighting works and how its beta-weighted delta band decides which new positions its engines are allowed to open.

-- Beta weighting answers a question that position-by-position risk checks cannot: which way is the whole account leaning right now. ACondor, an automated options trading platform built for tastytrade accounts, applies the measure as a portfolio-level gate on every new entry its engines propose.

The method is straightforward. Each open position carries a delta, a measure of how its value moves when the underlying moves. Deltas in different symbols cannot simply be added together, because a one-point move in a small-cap ETF is not the same event as a one-point move in a mega-cap index. Beta weighting converts each position's delta into a common unit, dollars of exposure per one-point move in the S&P 500, using the underlying's beta. Once every position speaks that language, the platform can add them up and read a single number for the account.

That number is what a per-position rule cannot see. Every trade in a book can be correctly sized on its own and the book as a whole can still sit entirely on one side of the market. ACondor's development record cites the case that prompted the control: eleven positions opened in the same direction across the book, none of which violated any per-position limit. Defined risk on each trade does not help when correlations move toward one and every short strike is tested in the same session.

The beta-weighted delta band is the control that resulted. The platform measures the account's beta-weighted delta in dollars per one-point S&P move and compares it against a band set as a percentage of net liquidation value, 1.0 percent by default. Inside the band, any trade that clears the platform's other rules may be opened. Outside the band, only entries that move the book back toward neutral are allowed through, which steers direction rather than halting activity. The gate is entry-side only. It never closes, rolls, or resizes a position already held.

The band width was calibrated deliberately rather than copied. The neutral band many premium sellers reference is roughly 0.1 percent of net liquidation value. On an account of about 12,500 dollars, that works out to roughly 12 dollars per S&P point, while a single one-lot 20-delta short position already represents about 20 dollars per point. At that account size the tighter band is unreachable and would refuse every entry the platform proposed. The 1.0 percent default sits about ten times wider and still flags a genuinely one-sided book.

The delta band works alongside two other account-level gates. A buying-power ceiling refuses an entry that would leave less than a set share of the broker's own remaining derivative buying power available, and because it reads the broker's figure rather than the platform's own, positions placed by hand in the same account count against it. The earnings engine adds a selection screen of its own, excluding candidates whose beta sits above 1.3 or whose implied move exceeds 8 percent of the share price, then ranking the remaining names calmest first.

Every one of these limits is adjustable, globally or per account, from the dashboard, and every refusal is logged with the rule that caused it, so the reason a trade was declined is always recoverable after the fact.

ACondor is software that executes a defined set of rules in a connected brokerage account. It is not investment advice, and no trading system can eliminate the risk of loss. Options trading involves substantial risk and is not suitable for every investor. No outcome is promised or implied by any control described here.
